A good number of the choir (the student part) changes each year. Also, how they approach the piece changes each year. I think that to just completely write it off undervalues it. Listening to live music is definitely better than listening to recordings and performing is even better (even if I do tend to remember my mistakes a lot more than anything else). BTW, on my list of "ways I'd like to tweak my life" is "listen to more live music." And perform more, too, if only for myself.
